Postcards designed by Damien Hirst and Turner Prize winner George Shaw are going up for auction at Newcastle University.

Their pieces, and postcards by other well-known artists including Tim Bavington and illustrator Melvyn Evans, as well as work by staff and art students will be going under the hammer on Friday.

The funds raised from the annual event will go towards supporting the 2013 Fine Art degree show.

Oganiser Alexandra de Lusignan said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to pick up some art by a world famous artist – or by a student who could be the next big thing in the art world. We’ve got some amazing pieces this year and if you like art, you should come along and get bidding.“

A silent auction will take place in Newcastle University’s Fine Art Building at 5pm on Friday, 07 December, with a live auction hosted by Anderson & Garland auction house at 7.30pm.

If you can’t attend, you can take part online by emailing your name, email address, phone number, lot number and bid to the organisers by 10pm on Thursday, 06 December.

You can see the postcards on the Fine Art Auction website.
