Thousands flock to Newcastle University Visit Days
Prospective undergraduate students from across the country will arrive in the city tomorrow and Saturday for Newcastle University’s Visit Days.
More than 20,000 students, parents and teachers are registered to attend over the two
days - a 10% increase on last year’s numbers.
The visitors will get the very best experience of living and learning in Newcastle with student-led tours of the campus, accommodation and teaching facilities and can choose from over 50 sessions, where they’ll find out more about academic subjects. Current students and graduates will also be on hand to share their experiences of student life in the city.
Professor Suzanne Cholerton, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Learning and Teaching at Newcastle University said: “We are delighted with the response we’ve had for our visit days which grow year-on-year. There is no doubt that prospective students are attracted to Newcastle University because of its reputation for an excellent student experience.
“We also know that parents, in particular, are keen to learn about our employability record which is outstanding with over 95% of our graduates in work or further training six months after graduation.”
Sarah Stewart, CEO of the Newcastle Gateshead Initiative is pleased to welcome new visitors to the area. She said: “Across the city we want to give a warm Geordie welcome to prospective students and their families. A whole range of partners, including hoteliers and retailers, are helping to shout about how great it is to live here and what we have to offer.
“Young people can enjoy our mix of great culture, nightlife and things to do all in a safe, friendly and compact place. We’re also delighted to show parents and families that it’s not just for their children but they can have a great experience too when they come to visit – and they’ll want to keep coming back!”
For the first time free WiFi will be available across Newcastle University’s campus, giving visitors access to a brand new Visit Day mobile-responsive website anywhere on campus. This website features maps of the city and campus, along with the location and timing of key activities during the day.
