Newcastle University to welcome prospective students

Over 18,000 people are expected to visit Newcastle University’s city-centre campus on Saturday 19 September.

The University’s attractive campus will again be the perfect backdrop for thousands of photos, as students and their families attend the  autumn undergraduate Open Day to find out more about the undergraduate degrees on offer and get a feel for the University and the city.

Professor Suzanne Cholerton, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Learning and Teaching, said: “The autumn undergraduate day is one of the biggest events for the University, and we are expecting a busy and exciting day.

“People coming to our campus will get a chance to find out what makes the student experience at Newcastle University one of highest ranked in the UK. Just last month, the University scored 91% student satisfaction, placing it joint 6th in the UK amongst comparator universities in the 2015 National Student Experience Survey. We scored particularly highly for the quality of our teaching staff and our library services, IT facilities and academic support.

“We will be offering accommodation tours to help students see for themselves why the University accommodation was voted sixth in the UK in the recent National Student Housing Survey.”

Students and their parents will have the opportunity to go on a walking tour of the city and tours of the University campus, as well as attending a wide range of subject sessions – from Accounting to Urban Planning.

Around 300 current students and the University mascot, Percy the Lion, will be on campus to welcome visitors. Music performances from current students will take place throughout the day in the University’s picturesque quadrangle.

Visitors are encouraged to share their Open Day experiences on the day with their networks using #nclvisit
