EQUIS accreditation

Elite Business School’s success with top accreditation

Published on: 29 March 2019

Newcastle University Business School has again been given the stamp of approval by the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS), the highest standard of achievement in business education.

EQUIS is the leading international system of quality assessment, improvement and accreditation of higher education institutions in management and business administration.

The fundamental objective of EQUIS is to raise the standard of management education worldwide. Its focus is on all management programmes offered by an institution from undergraduate level to PhD.

Newcastle University Business School

Fourth time accredited

It is the fourth time that the Business School has received official accreditation from EQUIS. They were first awarded EQUIS accreditation in 2010 and again 2013, 2016 and 2019.

The school is also accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and last year celebrated 30 years of endorsement by the Association of MBAs (AMBA).

Professor Sharon Mavin, Director of Newcastle University Business School, said: “We are delighted to once more receive this international recognition from EQUIS and be reaccredited.

“It is a testimony to the excellence of our research plus the high quality of our staff and students that we are among an elite group of business schools worldwide to have achieved triple accreditation.

“As our focus is on educating for the ‘Future of Work’ and ‘Leading on Leadership’, this strong endorsement of our work demonstrates our commitment to providing an exceptional education that gives students the skills and knowledge they need to not only become global business leaders of the future, but to make a positive impact on society.”

The EQUIS accreditation means that the Business School holds onto its place as one of an elite group of business schools worldwide who hold triple accreditation - and one of only 26 institutions in the UK to do so.

Quality education and research

Awarding the endorsement, the Director of Quality Services and EQUIS, David Asch, said: “I would like to congratulate the Newcastle University Business School for a successful EQUIS re-accreditation.

“The School continues in its vision of quality education and research with the provision of creative solutions and focus on global problems. The School’s high-quality programmes are designed with clear objectives with well-articulated regimes of learning, assessment and assurance of learning.

“EQUIS accreditation ensures a rigorous quality improvement process, benchmarking the School against international standards in terms of governance, programmes, students, faculty, research, and foremost, internationalisation, ethics, responsibility and sustainability, as well as corporate engagement.

“There are currently no substitutes for such an in-depth assessment of quality and all the schools should be commended for their commitment to excellence.”
