Summer Music Festival to showcase talented students

Up-and-coming musicians will be the stars of the Newcastle University Summer Music Festival.

Annual event

Organised by students in the University’s International Centre for Music Studies and featuring performances from students across the University, this year the annual event will take place online and culminate in a live performance.

Student Ruby Turner has organised the festival. She said: “I hope everybody will feel able to support this exciting event, either by coming along in person or by joining us online. We have lots of talented artists that I know everybody will enjoy.”

The music performed will include contemporary pop music, folk and roots, classical, and electric bands and students have recorded their sets either at home or in the University’s music department.
The highlight of the week will take place on Friday with an acoustic concert performed at St Andrew's Church in Newcastle.

“In-person live performances makes such a difference for musicians as well as the audience. This is the first time in over a year to showcase student talent in a live setting,” said Ruby. “A huge thank you to St Andrews Church and the University for helping make this a reality.”

“The Summer Festival brings us a brilliant range of performances showcasing the talent and creativity of our students. After such a difficult year, it's brilliant to be able to celebrate the students' achievements in this way.”
