Newcastle University has risen five places to 21st in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide.
Employment prospects
The rankings show Newcastle graduates have the best employment prospects of any institution in the North East; with more than 85% going straight into professional employment or further study within six months of graduation. This places the University in the Top 10 in the UK.
Art and Design at Newcastle is ranked joint first in the UK, claiming the top spot for the third consecutive year.
The guide shows that Newcastle is among the best for many of its popular subjects, with 17 ranked in the UK's Top 10: Anatomy and Physiology, Creative Writing, Iberian Languages, Philosophy, French, Dentistry, Architecture, German, Agriculture and Forestry, Linguistics, Medicine, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering, Food Science, Geology, Communication and Media Studies, and English.
Professor Suzanne Cholerton Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education at Newcastle University said:
"These results exemplify, through our student demographic and our students’ excellent achievements, the University’s guiding principle of ‘Freedom and opportunity to succeed’.
“They represent the significant efforts of our staff in supporting students to enter our university and in supporting them to gain knowledge and develop skills and attributes which help them to succeed in gaining graduate employment and to go onto further study.”
Potential to succeed
The PARTNERS programme is aimed at less advantaged students with potential to succeed at Newcastle University. They receive a lower offer to come to Newcastle on the condition they take part in events designed to prepare them for university life.
The Good University Guide also highlights the University’s involvement in the £350m Newcastle Helix development and the new sports centre, due to open next year as part of a £30m investment in sports provision.
The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide will be available on Sunday 23rd September.
