I am responsible for the delivery of the Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and for ensuring that we offer high quality teaching and learning opportunities for our trainees which meet of the requirements of the professional accrediting body. As part of that role, I provide teaching in clinical areas including Health Anxiety and Body Dysmorphic Disorder and offer clinical supervision to trainees. I also work with clinical supervisors within the region to enhance their supervisory skills.
I offer some courses of therapy within the Psychological Therapies Training and Research Clinic. My role in the clinic is to offer effective courses of psychological therapy for students who are experiencing common mental health difficulties such as low mood and anxiety-related difficulties.
By background I am a clinical psychologist. After completing my training at Newcastle University, I worked as a clinical psychologist in different areas in England and Wales. In the earlier part of my working life, I worked with adults with intellectual disabilities and more recently I have worked with adults with mental health difficulties. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is the main model that has informed my work and I became accredited as a CBT Therapist in 2011.
For much of my career I have worked in roles in which I have contributed to the training of mental health professionals. I was employed on Doctorate in Clinical Psychology programmes at Teesside, Staffordshire and Bangor universities and was involved in the delivery of CBT awards at Staffordshire and Lancaster Universities.
