Tudor Partbooks
Digitizing, restoring, reconstructing and analysing Tudor polyphonic music manuscripts.
This three-year project – a collaboration between the Universities of Oxford and Newcastle funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council – digitized the manuscripts of Tudor polyphonic music, primarily sacred, from c.1510-1590 preserved in partbook format (where each vocal part is written in a separate book). In all more than 10,000 images were taken. The project has already enabled the publication of several outputs; two major facsimiles are in preparation.
