Music Undergraduate Scholarships

Four £3,000 scholarships are available to new undergraduate students entering a degree offered by Newcastle University’s International Centre for Music Studies in September 2025. We will award the music scholarships in the first year of study and pay it in two equal instalments, the first on registration in semester one and the second in semester two.

Eligibility

To be considered for a music scholarship, you must:

Successful candidates may not be in receipt of other funding from the University.

How to apply

You do not need to apply for these scholarships. Eligible candidates will automatically be considered for a scholarship on the basis of their academic merit, musical track record and performance at an Interview/online audition.

Successful candidates will be notified in April/May 2025 and must firm accept our offer to receive the scholarship.

Organ and Choral Scholarships

Organ and Choral Scholarships are open to all student members of the university, whatever their degree course.

The University Organ Scholarship is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students and can be held singly or in conjunction with scholarships at places of worship in the city. For more information, please contact Prof. Magnus Williamson at magnus.williamson@nc.ac.uk

We are pleased to host Choral Scholarships in partnership with the historic St Andrews Church. These scholarships begin at £1,500 per annum and encompass Sundays during termtime, Friday evening rehearsals, Thursday Compline during Lent, and some Holy Week services. Scholarships are open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Newcastle Cathedral choral scholarships begin at £2,000 per year. You'll also get free singing lessons at St Nicholas Cathedral.

AHRC funding, Northern Bridge Doctoral Training Partnership

We are very pleased to announce that we have been successful in our application to the AHRC under the second phase of the Block Grant Partnership.

This gives us funding of future PhD students as part of the Northern Bridge Consortium, along with Durham University and Queen's University Belfast.

Eligibility

The majority of the funding that is now available via the Northern Bridge Consortium is for PhD students only.

You must be a UK or EU citizen and you want to study at postgraduate level at Newcastle University.

Jane Constance MA International Multimedia Journalism Scholarship 2025-26

Newcastle University is pleased to offer the Jane Constance Scholarship to support North East women to pursue a career in Journalism. It is available for candidates wishing to study MA International Multimedia Journalism at Newcastle University beginning in September 2025.
The scholarship can be used for course fees or materials, accommodation or childcare. Support will also be available to secure post-qualification employment.

Number of awards available: 2

Scholarship Amount: £6,250 for 1 year of full-time study or over 2 years for part-time students.

Eligibility Criteria:

Two awards of £6,250 each are available for postgraduate students commencing their studies in September 2025, on the MA International Multimedia Journalism degree programme.

The scholarship is for female home students from the North East.

Notice of Award: You will be informed by the Student Financial Support Team by the end of the Autumn term of the outcome of your application.

Conditions of scholarship:

All scholarship recipients are asked to provide an introductory profile when they first receive the award, and an annual update report to inform their donor of their progress. You will be contacted to provide these reports with plenty of notice.  Recipients are encouraged to be available to meet the donors and participate in the promotion of student support activity at Newcastle University if requested.

Florence Hilda Yates Scholarship

100% fees at the Home rate for a student starting the MMusMLitt or MPhil research degrees in Music. If the scholarship is held by an overseas student, the holder will be responsible for paying the balance between the home and the overseas fees rate.

Two awards are available this year.  One award is open to ALL students, and the other is reserved exclusively for students from under-represented groups to progress to higher level study (full eligibility criteria and evidence required are detailed in the application form)
