I have been studying at Newcastle University in the School of Arts and Cultures since 2020. During this time, I developed an interest in the interdisciplinary field of porn studies that allowed me to develop independent research projects around masculinity and (user-generated) pornography.
I am a conservation architect and heritage consultant with 16 years of experience in colonial heritage sites across the Caribbean and Latin America. My PhD research developed culturally relevant methodologies for heritage management, including participatory approaches.
Before Newcastle University I worked in UK museums and cultural bodies nationally, regionally and locally and led cultural regeneration projects- Perth Museum, Scotland. Project title: By the Book? – alternative approaches to economic/social impact appraisal of museums in regeneration settings
Lingyi is a PhD candidate in Media, Culture, and Heritage at Newcastle University. Her research focuses on Chinese mythology, the Green Snake narrative, examining the cultural and collective significance of mythological adaptations in contemporary media and their role in shaping cultural heritage
With a passion for exploring the intersections of gender, visual media, and culture, my work delves into how individuals use creative and cultural practices to navigate and express multifaceted identities. Rooted in media studies and queer theory, I bring a unique lens to East Asian cultural context
Paul is a PhD Film Practice student at Newcastle University and faculty member at Ningbo University. His award-winning documentaries have been recognized at prestigious festivals including the Grierson Awards, One World Media, Nice International Film Festival, and Bengaluru International Short Film
I’m a final-stage PhD student in Media, Culture and Heritage (MCH). I’m also a writer and a guitarist. Alongside my PhD, I have taught seminars in various university departments, including Music, MCH and HaSS. I’m interested in popular music, languages, literature, film, feminism and journalism.

Shafaat Hussain taught in Ethiopia as an Assistant Professor of Journalism for more than a decade (2010-2021). With three masters (Geography, Mass Communication and Teaching English as a Foreign Language), and an M. Phil in Mass Communication, he is a certified teacher in the UK and overseas.
