Project Description

Many scholars in Asia, Africa and Latin America have called for de-westernising, de-nationalising, and southernising of journalism education. They justify for an initiative to develop innovative, country specific, need-oriented, and locally tailored journalism education model. My project title is: “Towards Developing Non-Anglophonic Pedagogical Model for Journalism Education in the global South.” In this age of global Englishisation at tertiary level, English-medium education (EME) is one of the main concerns in the process of knowledge transfer in the global South. Taking Ethiopia as a case, this study highlights the EME-linked problems in the teaching learning process; critiques the all-available pedagogical models and advocates for an alternate model which can enhance the overall quality of journalism education in the non-Anglophonic global South.

Research Interest

Hussain’s research interest has been diverse -- impact of social media, English as a medium of Instruction (EMI), and journalism education in the global South. He is a well published author and researcher who has written a book, 20 papers, a book review, a conference proceeding and three international conference presentations to his credit. His research reflects high readership index and citation on Research Gate (About 400,000 reads, and 143 citations on Research Gate). Before joining academia, He worked for a decade (2000-2010) as a ‘Research Investigator’ in Broadcasting Corporation of India.
