Free Support with your Climate Action Plan

Students Organising for Sustainability UK provides teachers with an excellent opportunity for free support to produce their school's Climate Action Plan.

29 May 2024

Students Organising for Sustainability UK (SOS-UK) can support schools and colleges in the local region.

Starting in 2025, all schools in England are required to have a Climate Action Plan (CAP) in alignment with the latest directives from the Department for Education on Climate Change and Sustainability Strategy.

SOS-UK is a student-led education charity committed to supporting schools in this vital endeavour.

Under the Green Schools Revolution initiative, SOS-UK are excited to support a select number of schools in Newcastle in developing their CAPs, free of cost. This presents a remarkable opportunity not only to bolster students' personal growth but also to empower them to make tangible, positive contributions to their school's future.

Participating in the CAPs project fosters the development of responsible, engaged citizens by nurturing their curiosity about the world and fostering critical thinking on ethical and moral issues.

The SOS-UK approach

A strong emphasis is placed on youth leadership, providing students with the confidence and skills to spearhead the development of their school's CAP in collaboration with faculty and other stakeholders.

Furthermore, students will have the unique chance to meet and work alongside professionals:

  • an energy auditor for conducting a comprehensive energy audit
  • a wildlife expert to integrate biodiversity into their plans
  • climate scientist to explore green career pathways.

Flexibility is key to our CAPs project, and SOS-UK are fully committed to tailoring our support to suit the specific needs of each school community.

How to get involved

Given the limited number of schools we can offer this support to, interested schools can express interest by completing a brief survey or reaching out to SOS-UK directly via email below.
