On Wednesday, 13 November 2024, Newcastle University in Singapore and the Digital Trust Centre (DTC) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) hosted a pivotal event, the Dialogue on Digital Trust in AI for Healthcare. This gathering brought together a diverse group of experts, innovators, and thought leaders to delve into the critical role of trust in integrating AI technologies within the healthcare sector.

The event was supported by the British High Commission’s Science and Innovation Office, and the UK’s National Innovation Centre for Data (NICD), led by Prof Paul Watson, Director of NICD.

Key topics discussed at the event include:

  • Building and maintaining digital trust in AI systems
  • Ethical considerations and best practices
  • Regulatory frameworks and confidence-building measures for AI and data collection in healthcare

The speakers emphasised that trust in AI is paramount in healthcare, where the potential to reduce costs and enhance patient care through reliable, safe, and ethical AI is immense. The dialogue underscored the need for ongoing engagement, listening, and collaboration across disciplines and sectors to address data inadequacies, ensure societal trust, and implement adequate safeguards.

This event also highlighted the importance of collaboration between the U.K. and Singapore in advancing AI in healthcare. Contributions from Newcastle University, Newcastle Research & Innovation Institute in Singapore (NewRIIS), and Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia were acknowledged as vital to this continuing dialogue.
