He is Editor in Chief of the five-volume translation into English of Valéry's Cahiers / Notebooks (vols. 1 & 2 published by Peter Lang, 2000) and also is currently working as co-editor preparing the digitized version of Valéry's private library and marginalia; see Valéry Studies.
Future Research
Writers and Artists in France.
The project will lead to an electronic data-base, an exhibition, conferences and publications.
The Gaze in French Art and Literature: the project seeks to trace the development of the relationship between observer and observed in painting and writing in France. Issues such as the changing understanding of perception, the circulation of images in art, the relation between 'inner' and 'outer' gaze would be examined, as well as the way that changes in the representation of visual images may be related to approaches to verbal representation in literature.
