Staff Profile
Background
I am a doctorate candidate in Film Studies and I graduated with a BEd (Hons) from the University of East Anglia and an MEd from the University of Hong Kong. I was a high school teacher for over a decade and also spent a decade in the private business sector before receiving my MA in Film Studies (Theories and Practice) from Newcastle University in 2017.
Research
My research interest is in East Asian cinema, specifically on the cinematic representation of culture and identity. My thesis examines Edward Yang's cinematic representation of Taiwanese masculinity during Taiwan's rapid transition into modernity. My research project is in the capable hands of my two supervisors, Professor Sabrina Yu, Professor Guy Austin and my external advisor Dr Ming-yeh Rawnsley.
Teaching
I am currently teaching a second year undergraduate module. (SML 2011 Cities in East Asian Cinema: Culture, History and Identity)
