Introduction
Dr Sandra Salin is a French native speaker with post graduate qualifications (including PGD and PhD) in English, French Studies and French as a Foreign Language. She holds a Certificate in Advanced Studies in Academic Practice and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She is also a proposal and manuscript reviewer for Routledge Language Learning; an External Assessor for the Open University, and an External Examiner for Keele University.
Dr Salin has worked as a French Lecturer in several universities in the UK, including Sheffield and Northumbria University. She joined Newcastle University School of Modern Languages in 2000, became a full-time Teaching Fellow in 2010, a Lecturer in 2015 and a Senior Lecturer in 2018. She currently teaches French on various undergraduate modules, from first to final year. She is also the module leader of two French language modules (FRE1071 and FRE4083) and two cross-section modules (SML1024 and SML4003).
Her current interests include: Language learning and teaching; Language material and programme development; admission and transition to HE; Graduate Skills; independent and reflective learning; students' engagement; inclusive practice.

CURRENT PROJECTS:
- Leading the designing of the SML Canvas Community in collaboration with Newcastle University Learning and Teaching Development Services.
- Leading the designing of a new Stage 1 module focusing on group work, employability, TEL and language learning.
- Virtual tandem Scheme with Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour for first-year students.
RECENT CONFERENCES ORGANISED (LEADING ROLE):
- July 2022: Second SML Teaching and Learning Conference (Technology enhanced learning and assessment, inclusive and innovative language learning practice, language learning through Writing).
- September 2020: L&T annual conference InnoConf20, held virtually for the first time. The event attracted 134 delegates from 40 different institutions from 7 countries and 4 continents.
- June 2019: First SML Teaching and Learning Conference to address needs expressed by colleagues in their professional reviews.
- September 2018: First Year Abroad Conference (YAC2018) that attracted 65 delegates from 15 UK universities. Has become an annual event.
