“The Case of Quechua (Peru) and Norman (France) Language Survival”
This theoretical study examines the impact of language ideologies on language survival. It uses the case studies of Norman (France) and Quechua (Peru).
The aim of the project is to advance our thinking on what we mean by language survival. Correspondingly, a definition of language survival is fundamental, together with the necessary conditions to accomplish this.
The study addresses the conditions in which Quechua and Norman currently exist and have previously existed. It focuses primarily on the socio-political ideologies which endure within each language community. I will then consider whether each language has or can survive.
