"Chinese Bridge" Study Tour Camp 2024

On July 5th-14th, 2024, the Confucius Institute at Newcastle University successfully organized students to participate in the 2024 'Chinese Bridge' Study Tour Camp. The programme, co-organized by Xiamen University and the China Centre for Language Education and Cooperation, aimed at promoting educational exchange between Chinese and UK schools, offering participants a comprehensive cultural immersion.

Participants, mainly from northeastern England including both university and high school students, engaged in a diverse range of activities.

Under the organization of Xiamen University, they delved into Chinese language and culture. Beginning with foundational Mandarin courses and cultural literacy sessions, they explored the intricate beauty of Chinese characters and participated in workshops such as non-heritage papermaking and incense carving to appreciate traditional crafts.

Beyond academic pursuits, cultural excursions to Beijing and Quanzhou enriched their experience. In Beijing, students visited historic landmarks such as the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and the Great Wall, immersing themselves in China's rich historical legacy.

Through this Study Tour Camp, students gained insights into contemporary Chinese society, witnessing firsthand its economic progress and cultural diversity. The program concluded with students expressing their profound appreciation for the transformative journey, with some aspiring to return to China for further exploration.
