The Institute has a small team of part time staff. Liz Todd, Director of the Institute for Social Science and Professor of Educational Inclusion and Jen Bagelman, Deputy Director and Reader in Human Geography, are supported by Clare Vint, Operations Coordinator. The team work together closely on the strategic direction as well as day to day activity of the Institute.

Governance

The Institute for Social Science has an International Advisory Board, which is held in conjunction with the Newcastle University Humanities Research Institute. The social science members of this board are: Professor Marta Soler Gallart from the University of Barcelona Professor Sue Scott from Newcastle University, Rachel Thompson from the University of Sussex, and Jennifer Wallace from Carnegie Trust UK.

In conjunction with the International Advisory Board, the Institute consults with a range of people on a more flexible basis – these groups comprise of topic specialists and includes academic colleagues from a range of career stages, from PhD students through to professors, and members of professional services staff.

Our strategic activity on anti-racism is led by Dr Heather Smith and Professor Peter Hopkins, and our work on Gender at Newcastle is supported and developed in conjunction with Professors Diane Richardson and Sue Scott.

We also work closely with a group of Newcastle University researchers who are Fellows of the Academy of Social Sciences.
