Visas for Babies Born in the UK

If you have a child born in the UK you may wish to apply for a visa for your child. It is not mandatory for a child born in the UK to apply for a UK visa. However you will need to apply if you plan to leave the UK and re-enter with your child. Additionally if you do not apply for a visa for your child they will not be covered by the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) and you may be liable to pay for any healthcare required if they are over 3 months old. Please ensure you read the guidance regarding dependant
applications as provided by the UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA).

You will need to complete the online application form and select "Applying to join somebody (a main applicant) in the UK". If you have any questions regarding the form, you will need to email visa@ncl.ac.uk

Please see below, the list of required supporting documents for the visa application:

  • Financial evidence that covers the living expenses for your baby for the remainder of months on your visa (if time left on the visa is less than 9 months) or 9 months maximum (£680 per month x 9 = £6090). This evidence can be an official sponsor letter with the child’s name on it or a personal bank statement or any other document permitted in the PBS dependant guidance. (You will require this, even if you and and any other dependants are exempt from demonstrating funds held or
financial sponsorship at the time of making the application)
  • Babies Passport / travel document or an explanation of why there is no passport available.
  • Birth certificate showing both parents' names
