Come and join one of the many events during your first few weeks. They will help you get familiar with the university and enable you to meet new people.

Student Welcome events schedule

Starting university is an exciting time, and there are lots of events and activities designed to help you settle in.

Our Student Welcome events take place during your first few weeks and are a great way to explore campus, get involved, and meet other students.

We also run International Welcome events to support students arriving from overseas.

These sessions are a chance to learn more about life in Newcastle, get practical advice, and make new friends from around the world.

  • on 16-17 September 2026 between 10:00 and 15:00, and 18 September 10:00 to 13:00

International Welcome Information Fair

The information fair will be:

  • on 16-18 September 2026 between 10:00 and 15:00
  • in the Frederick Douglass Centre on the ground floor

Chat with representatives from services across the university and city. Find out more information about:

  • Language Resource Centre
  • NUSU (Students' Union)
  • Nexus (local transportation)
  • Student Health and Wellbeing Service

Refreshments will be provided. You'll be able to chat with other new students over a tea or coffee.

International Welcome Celebration

Join us in celebrating your arrival in Newcastle at our International Welcome Celebration, to close our International Welcome Week. Hear from speakers from the university, students' union and city, and meet other new international students at our social event afterwards (with pizza!)

Time: 14:00-16:30 (this event starts promptly at 14:00!)

Location: Frederick Douglass Centre

Campus and City Tours

Our Students' Union will be offering several FREE tours of the city and campus. These will run throughout International Welcome and the first week of term. Why not join one and explore what the university and city have to offer? You can book on to these tours via the NUSU website.

Lundgren Tours offers students the opportunity to explore further afield and learn more about the UK's history. You can book onto one of the student-specific tours via the NUSU website.

NUSU Big Welcome

Newcastle University Students' Union (NUSU) offers activities that you can join throughout the first few weeks of term - meet new people, have some new experiences, and enjoy getting to know the university and the city.

Some of the events to look forward to as part of NUSU's Big Welcome:
