Starting your Studies
Start of term
The 2024-25 academic year starts on Monday 16 September 2024.
All students must aim to arrive on campus in Newcastle by this date for the start of Semester 1.
You will have classes to attend from this date, including in-person induction sessions with your school.
Some programmes may have an earlier start date, if this applies to you your academic school at the University will write to you to confirm this.
You can view term and semester dates for the current and future academic years.
Late arrivals
It is important that you arrive on time to ensure you don’t miss any important induction or teaching and assessment activities. However, if you are going to be late due to delays caused by issues such as immigration or travel delays, arrival up until Monday 7 October 2024 may be possible depending on your degree programme and subject to approval.
To seek approval for a late arrival you can submit this form or contact: latestartrequest@newcastle.ac.uk.
You can still complete your registration if necessary after you arrive, but you must be able to attend classes from the latest arrival date approved by the University.
Timetable
Your timetable will show you the date, time and location of classes taking place on campus. Find out how to access your personal teaching timetable.
We recommend checking your timetable daily for the first few weeks as it can be subject to change.
Meet your personal tutor
Your personal tutor is your first point of contact if you experience any problems during your time at university.
Your tutor will be a member of academic staff within your degree programme. They can:
- help you with academic matters
- direct you to any wellbeing support you may need
Within your first few weeks, familiarise yourself with your personal tutor and arrange to meet.
Support with your studies
The Academic Skills Kit (ASK) has many resources available to support you with your studies in the first few weeks and beyond including:
- one to one support and Your Skills workshops with the Academic Skills team
- help with maths and statistics from Maths-Aid
- advice on good academic practice in the Referencing Guide
