Register as a Student
You can start the registration process online, before you arrive at Newcastle.
If you have accepted an offer from us, we will send you registration instructions once your offer becomes unconditional.
You'll receive registration instructions to the personal email address included in your application. These will be sent from the following dates:
- to new postgraduate students from 5 August 2024 onwards
- to new undergraduates from 20 August 2024 onwards
1. Access your Newcastle University student email account
The registration instructions email will tell you how to access your University email account.
When you first access your University email account you should:
- see an email from the IT Service Desk about Newcastle University student registration
- follow the registration instructions within this to access the Student Portal
2. Login to the Student Portal
The Student Portal enables you to:
- register onto your programme of study
- keep your personal details up to date
- pay fees
- produce documents to confirm your student status
- confirm module choices for the next academic year
Your Student Portal login details are the same user name and password as your University IT account.
When you access the Student Portal you:
- will need to accept the University’s Terms and Conditions. This takes the form of the Student Declaration.
- will be unable to proceed with your registration if you do not accept the Terms and Conditions. You must you read these Terms and Conditions before agreeing to them
3. Confirm your details
Following step two, you will see the registration status screen. You'll need to complete the following tasks in order to complete registration. Please check:
- your personal details and add your term time address
- and confirm your programme details (make sure this matches your offer letter)
- your financial details
If your programme details are incorrect:
- do not continue with the registration
- please let us know so that we can look into it
If your programme is correct but there are other errors in the data:
- please send us an enquiry via the Student Portal and then complete your registration
- these errors will be fixed as soon as possible and they will not affect your registration with the University

4. Pay your Tuition Fees
You may need to pay your tuition fees before you can complete your registration. This will be indicated in the Student Portal on the status screen by a red cross alongside the financial details status.
You can pay your fees with a credit or debit card using the Student Portal financial details screen. To ensure a smooth registration process, we recommend you arrange payment of your fees before arriving in Newcastle.

- use the enquire button on the financial details screen to send a message directly
6. Upload your photo
To enable us to produce a smartcard for you we need you to upload a photograph of yourself via the Student Portal.
Please ensure that you:
- upload your photograph before you start your course or arrive in Newcastle
- do this as soon as you can
- follow the instructions in the Portal to upload your photograph. The photograph should be of good quality and a true likeness of yourself. It will be displayed on your smartcard which you may be required to show as identification to prove your student status
If you studied with us last year and already have a smartcard you do not need to upload a new photograph. We will use your existing photograph for your new card.
