Self-certified extensions

The Personal Extenuating Circumstances (PEC) policy allows students to apply for up to two self-certified extensions each academic year. When submitted via the Student Portal, self-certified extensions will now be automatically approved within the system, allowing students to receive their approved PEC quickly and seamlessly.

Once you have been notified this is now in place for your School, you can then submit a self-certified extension by following the below steps:

  1. Log in to the Student Portal
  2. Click on ‘My Requests’ section
  3. Click onto the 'Self Certified Extensions' tile and create a Self Cert Extension

You will receive an automated update once submitted on the Student Portal, confirming your extension has been granted.

How do I access the Student Portal?

The URL for the Student Portal is: https://studentportal.ncl.ac.uk/

You log in using your University email address and password. You may be automatically logged in if you are already accessing other University systems.

To make it easy to find the Student Portal, you can make it a home screen shortcut on your phone, desktop or laptop. This will appear ‘like an app’ on your home screen for easy future access. Guidance can be found on Student Portal Help.

How do I get help using the Student Portal?

Guidance and demonstration videos are available for students in the Student Portal via the Help link (top right of screen).

You’ll find answers to frequently asked questions about logging in, registration or who to contact for further information about student services.

If you have a technical issue, eg you can’t log in to the new Student Portal, then contact NUIT Service Desk

How can I provide feedback about the new Student Portal?

We continue to review feedback that we receive directly in the Student Portal (follow the 'Feedback' link on the top right-hand menu bar).

Over the coming months, we will be working with a group of students to continue to improve the student experience of the Student Portal.
