New Student Portal is here!

Read important information and updates about the new Student Portal.

A new Student Portal was launched on 5 August 2024

The Student Portal replaces and combines the services in the Student Self-Service Portal (S3P) and the Newcastle University Mobile App.

Here we explain the changes and the key features of the new Portal and how they will affect you.

This is a test example of the new Student Portal 'look and feel'.

Why are these changes being made?

We listened to student feedback and developed a new Newcastle University Student Portal. Students can access the Portal on all mobile and desktop devices. The Portal brings together a range of tasks and information in one place.

Features of the former Newcastle University App have also been incorporated into the Student Portal to start to provide a single point of access to University services. The app was no longer able to be technically supported and was also being replaced by a similar mobile responsive web solution which is another reason why the changes have been joined up.

When did the changes happen?

The new Portal launched on Monday 5 August 2024. Working with students, we delivered the first phase with a brand-new look, enhanced self-service features (eg document upload), better management of personal data changes and improved guidance and online registration.

Students will register for the 2024/25 academic year using the new Student Portal. You will have received an email which will include a link to the new Portal.

How will the changes affect continuing students?

The new Portal gives continuing students easy access to a range of tasks and information that they used to access via S3P and the Newcastle App.

What tasks can I complete within the new Portal?

The core functionality of S3P and the University App has been brought together in one place.

Tasks that you can complete within the new Portal include:

  • registering on your programme
  • paying fees online
  • updating your personal details
  • downloading documents to confirm your status
  • downloading a Council Tax exemption certificate
  • viewing and selecting your module choices
  • submitting a Personal Extenuating Circumstances (PEC) request
  • submitting an absence request
  • completing actions such as adding bank details
  • viewing your Library Account and find a Library Study Space
  • uploading your photo for your smartcard
  • viewing your timetable and exam timetable
  • viewing the Campus Map
  • viewing printer credits
  • registering to vote
  • linking to other useful information or services on the University webpages

You will also find improved functionality that is tailored to your circumstances, including prompts which highlight when you have a task to complete, such as selecting your module choices or completing your registration.

How will I access the new Portal?

Here is the URL for the new Student Portal: https://studentportal.ncl.ac.uk/

New and returning students will have received an email invitation to register which will include a link to the new Student Portal. Current students will also have received information.

You will login using your University email address and password. You may be automatically logged in if you are already accessing other University systems.

To make it easy to find the Student Portal, you can make it a Home Screen shortcut on your phone, desktop or laptop. This will appear like an app on your home screen for easy access.

A redirect will be in place on the old student portal system.

If I had the Newcastle App, can I still use it?

No - from 5 August 2024, the University App no longer provides you with the information you need. If you are a continuing student and have the App downloaded to your phone, you should uninstall it and use the new Student Portal now.

How can I view my timetable?

You should now be able to view your timetable in a more user-friendly way.

We have also repositioned the ‘My Timetable’ tile based on feedback. It is a single click to access and appears at the top of the dashboard, after any outstanding registration actions.

How do I get help using the new Student Portal?

Guidance and demo videos are available for students in the new Student Portal via the Help link (top right of screen).

You’ll find answers to frequently asked questions about logging in, registration or who to contact for further information about student services.

If you have a technical issue, ie you can’t log in to the new Student Portal then contact NUIT Service Desk.

University staff supporting students can access guidance and demo videos about the new Student Portal.

How can I provide feedback about the new Student Portal?

We captured feedback on campus during registration and continue to review feedback that we receive directly in the Student Portal (follow the 'Feedback' link on the top right-hand menu bar).

Over the coming months, we will be working with a group of students to continue to improve the student experience.
