S3P and the University Mobile App are changing!

Find out about the launch of a new Student Portal and changes to S3P and the Newcastle University Mobile App

A new Student Portal will be launched in August 2024

The Student Portal will replace and combine the services in the current Student Self-Service Portal (S3P) and the Newcastle University Mobile App.

Here we explain when these changes will take place and how they will affect you.

This is a test example of the new Student Portal 'look and feel'.

Why are these changes being made?

S3P was outdated and didn’t work well on mobile devices. The University App was also in need of redevelopment. We have therefore merged the functionality of S3P and the University App to produce the new Newcastle University Student Portal which will be available on all mobile and desktop devices.

When will the changes happen?

The new Portal will launch early August 2024

When it is time to register for the new academic year, you will receive an email which will include a link to the new Portal.

How will the changes affect continuing students?

No functionality will be lost and continuing students will be able to complete all tasks that they can within the current portal (S3P) and the University App, but in one convenient location. Additional features and functionality will be added to help guide students through tasks that they need to complete.

What tasks can I complete within the new Portal?

You will be able to do everything that you can do within the current portal (S3P) and the University App – the functionality has been brought together in one place.

Tasks that you can complete include:

  • registering on your programme
  • paying fees online
  • updating your personal details
  • downloading documents to confirm your status
  • downloading Council Tax exemption letter
  • viewing and selecting your module choices
  • submitting a Personal Extenuating Circumstances form
  • submitting an absence request
  • completing actions such as adding bank details
  • viewing your Library Account and Library Study Space
  • uploading your photo ID for your smartcard
  • viewing your timetable and exam timetable
  • viewing the Campus Map
  • finding a PC on campus and viewing printer credits
  • registering to vote
  • linking to other useful information or services on the University web pages

You will also find improved functionality that is tailored to your circumstances, including prompts which highlight when you have a task to complete, such as selecting your module choices or completing your registration.

How will I access the new Portal?

We will share short videos and guidance and there will be messaging around campus to help you get started with the new Portal when it goes live.

You will login using your University username and password.

Will I still be able to access the App?

From early August 2024, the University App will no longer be supported. If you have the App downloaded to your phone, you will be advised to uninstall it and redirected to the Student Portal web address.

To make it easy to find the Student Portal, you can make it a Home Screen shortcut on your phone, desktop or laptop. Further guidance and support for students will be available as we approach the launch of the new Student Portal in early August.
