Volunteer with NEST

NEST (North East Solidarity and Teaching) will continue to deliver sessions over the summer helping children and adults from the local forced migration community to learn English. Sessions run Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 5-7pm on campus throughout the summer. An enhanced DBS will be required to work with the children. 

Register as a volunteer and you’ll be added to NEST’s summer volunteering group. Everyone is welcome!

Go Abroad on a Short-Term Summer Experience

 

We’ve got lots of great opportunities to go abroad this summer, whether you’re looking for an internship, summer school or volunteering opportunity there’s something for everyone. We also offer a range of online experiences for those who are less able to travel.

 

Placements range from a week’s duration up to four weeks+, so you don’t need to give up your whole summer vacation to take part.

Access TV and Films through the Library!

Have you met BOB (Box of Broadcasts)? It's an archive of over two million radio and television broadcasts from over 75 free-to-air channels, including all BBC channels, ITV and Channel 4, plus some international channels. New programmes are added to BoB as they are broadcast each day.

Campus Facilities and Services

Eat@Newcastle Opening Hours

Several campus cafes and food outlets will remain open during the summer months between 8am and 3pm, Monday - Friday:

  • The Grand
  • Courtyard
  • Bites
  • Daysh Cafe
  • Robinson Library Cafe
  • Sports Centre Cafe (also open weekends)
  • Catalyst

 

Sports Centre

The Sports Centre will be open as below throughout the summer months:

  • Monday - Friday: 07:00 - 22:00
  • Weekends: 09:00 - 17:00

The facility will be closed on Monday 26 August for the Bank Holiday.

The Sports Centre will be open during the summer period, with a schedule of fitness classes available for members to join: Summer Fitness Classes

Language Resource Centre

The Language Resource Centre will remain open throughout the summer:

  • Monday - Thursday 09:00 to 17:00
  • Fridays 09:00 to 16:45

The LRC has plenty of online resources you can access at any time, including films and series from around the world

Library and Academic Services

Libby App

Libby is a resource you can access through the university which has all kinds of books and magazines available,  from popular fiction to wellness and lifestyle.

Academic Skills Support

The Academic Skills Team will be supporting postgraduate students throughout the summer via the Your Skills programme. There is 1-to-1 availability over the summer (in-person and online) for anybody working on dissertations or other academic work. Additionally, they'll be hosting "Tea at 3" on August 1st (3 - 4.30pm in the Marjorie Robinson living room space) where students can drop in for free tea, coffee and biscuits and have a chat with members of the Academic Skills Team.

ResLife

For those in University Accommodation, ResLife will begin their out-of-term activities provision on 11th June and it will run through 5th July. Find out what's on from ResLife via their Instagram: @reslife_ncl 

Wellbeing Support

There will be no evening clinic during the summer months, so the hours of the Wellbeing Service is Monday-Friday 9am-5pm.
