Our work
The Sustainability Team is based in Newcastle University's Estates and Facilities department and we're responsible for implementing and maintaining the:
- Environmental Management System
- Energy Management System
- Environmental Sustainability, and Energy policies
Our work promotes and demonstrates continuous improvement in environmental and energy performance, ensuring best practice, statutory compliance and value for money. These efforts involve collaborating with colleagues throughout the University, engaging with our student body, and providing resources to the general public. As part of this, the team helps to manage a wide array of environmental considerations and information about our different areas of work can be found on our themes pages, in our Climate Action Plan, and on our blog.
The Sustainability Team is supported with a budget for sustainability which includes staff training and expenses, metering and software costs, and staff and student engagement funds. In 2021/22 this totalled circa £930k. Additionally, delivery of the Climate Action Plan and ongoing carbon reduction measures is supported by £15 million per year of central funding from the University, alongside SALIX funding, and funding from other grants where bids have been successful.
