Background
As Energy & Carbon Manager I oversee many Energy, Carbon and Sustainability operations across the University, working closely with my team, others in Estates and the wider University to improve sustainability, energy and water efficiency at Newcastle University. Main responsibilities include:
Energy
- energy monitoring, measuring, and targeting
- Report on the University's Energy Performance regularly, and ensure consistancy in published figures
- energy saving projects, including management of the final phase of retrofit LED project and the Solar PV , internal business cases,
- supervising electricity invoicing and validation
- general engagement events
Carbon
- Responsibility for the University Climate Action Plan and its implementation
- work with colleagues around the University to report on and reduce our scope 1, 2, and 3 carbon emissions, including energy, water, waste, and procurement emissions
Environmental and Energy Management Systems (EMS and EnMS)
- maintain the University's ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 certified EMS and EnMS to improve environmental and energy performance across the University
- monitor legislative compliance for all areas of environmental, energy (and other applicable) laws and voluntary compliance obligations
Water
- oversee the teams work on water monitoring and measurement for the campus and satellite sites, to reduce water wastage and identification of leaks and appliance failures
Heating and Building Management Systems
- review the University's Building Management Systems (BMS) and identify areas of potential energy savings, either through reviewed usage, or improving equipment and software
Engagement
- engage with colleagues across the University to advise on energy and water efficiency in their areas
- Complete various submissions with accurate and up-to-date data (HESA EMR, THE, QS Sustainability)
