About Newcastle University's Enterprise Services
Newcastle University’s Enterprise Service supports the University’s expertise and capabilities to generate societal and economic benefit for partners, universities, staff and students. We:
- assess the commercial market, protecting and commercialising intellectual property developed at the university.
- drive and enable engagement with companies, investors and entrepreneurs on opportunities to collaborate with University researchers and facilities.
Stage
Enterprise Services encourages individuals to contact them early in the discovery process.
While an idea or discovery may not be at a stage appropriate for a patent filing, our business development managers can work out a path for the future. They can identify the data/results needed before the intervention is ready for patent protection or the next step.
Enterprise Services can also discuss:
- possible paths toward commercialisation
- potential businesses to engage with
- funding sources for further development of discoveries.
Enterprise Services will support projects through all stages of the translational pathway (D1-T3). However, typically a lot of our efforts are focused on D2-D3 and T1, which are critical stages in validating and de-risking opportunities in order to progress.
