Tuition Fee Instalment Dates
Students can pay tuition fees in full to receive a 2% early payment discount.
International fee paying students
Students who register for the full academic year (which starts in September) are offered two instalment options:
- payment in full: pay your tuition fee liability in full during the registration period to receive a 2% early payment discount (terms and conditions apply)
- payment in two instalments: 50% of the tuition fee balance paid as a condition of registration and 50% due on the last working day in January
We do not produce tuition fee invoices for international fee paying students. If you are registering for your first year of study you can find your tuition fee balance on your offer letter. If you are a returning student and require evidence that payment is owed to the University, you can request a tuition fee certificate from the tuition fees team.
If you're not registering for a full academic year, or are registering mid-way through an academic year, then different payment terms may apply. For more information contact tuition-fees@ncl.ac.uk.
Sponsored Students
Different payment terms apply for sponsors paying tuition fees on a student's behalf.
Late payments
If you are unable to pay your tuition fees by the tuition fee instalment date, you must contact the tuition fees team immediately to discuss further.
Late payment charges
A late payment charge of £25 may be incurred for any instalments not received by the due date.
Any direct debit or cheque payments that are returned to the University unpaid will be classified as a late payment, and the late payment charge of £25 may be applied. Defaulting on direct debit payments may result in this facility being refused as a payment option to you in future years.
Deactivation of University facilities
If instalments remain unpaid the University may also remove your University IT and Library facilities until the outstanding amounts have been paid in full. This means you will be unable to access your computer logins (e-mail, Canvas, file store etc.), University libraries and some University buildings.
If your access is removed you will need to pay the outstanding amount of fees for your access to be reinstated. It can take 24-48 hours for your access to be reinstated.
Home fee paying students
Students who register for the full academic year (which starts in September) are offered a number of instalment options.
If you are not registering for a full academic year or are registering mid-way through an academic year then different payment terms may apply. For further information contact: tuition-fees@ncl.ac.uk.

33% | 30.04.2025 |
If the full tuition fee balance is paid by the 34% instalment deadline you will receive a 2% early payment discount (terms and conditions apply). The 2% discount can be deducted from the total amount paid to the University.
Tuition fee invoice
We will not issue a tuition fee invoice if:
- you have paid your tuition fee balance in full before the 15th October
- Your student loan provider has confirmed to us that you have a tuition fee loan in place
If there is a tuition fee balance on your account, we will issue an invoice and send it to your student email account by the end of October. The invoice outlines the balance on your account and your instalment amounts and deadlines.
If you receive an invoice but believe that you shouldn't have a balance on your tuition fee account, take the following action if you have:
- paid your tuition fee balance but it is not reflected on your invoice, email proof of payment and your student number to cash@ncl.ac.uk
- applied for a tuition fee loan but have received a tuition fee invoice, then your loan may not be finalised by the Student Loans Company
- you should contact the Student Loans Company to resolve the issue and keep the tuition fees team updated on your progress
