Suspensions and Withdrawals
How we will charge your tuition fees if you choose to suspend or withdraw from your studies.
Tuition fee refunds
In accordance with the University’s policy on tuition fees refunds, the amount of any tuition fees refunded is dependent on the date of withdrawal from the course of study. Full details of this policy are available on request.
No refunds can be made until:
- you notify your academic school of your intended withdrawal in writing
- your school formally notifies the Student Progress Office of your withdrawal
- your last date of attendance is confirmed
It may also be necessary for you to make a written request for a refund to the tuition fees team.
Home fee paying undergraduate and PGCE students
If you wish to withdraw from your programme of study at Newcastle University, the amount of tuition fees you are liable to pay will depend on the term in which you withdraw or suspend:
- term 1 you will pay 25% of the total academic year’s fee
- term 2 you will pay 50% of the total academic year’s fee
- term 3 you will pay 100% of the total academic year’s fee
Students with a tuition fee loan
If you have a loan for tuition fees, the University will notify the Student Loan Company that your liability for tuition fees has reduced. Therefore the amount of your loan will be reduced by the Student Loans Company. No refunds will be made directly to the student if they are in receipt of a tuition fee loan.
New International fee paying and postgraduate students
If you commenced your programme of study at the start of Term 1 and decide that you wish to suspend or withdraw from your programme of study, the amount of the tuition fees you pay will be based on the dates you were registered across.
