Renewable energy-headline or sideline?

PHILIP WOLFE, Chief Executive of the Renewable Energy Association

Date/Time:  14th October 2008, 17:30

To hear a recording of this lecture:

Renewable Energy is the saviour of the planet from self-destruction, or an expensive, overhyped piece of greenwash, which can make only a tiny contribution, depending on which newspaper you read, or which minister you listen to.

In this Joseph Swan Memorial Lecture, Philip Wolfe will make an authoritative, if unashamedly subjective, evaluation of the case for renewable energy. He will review the global and national drivers currently impacting on the sector and identify some of the hot-spots for explosive growth over the new few decades.

Philip Wolfe has over 30 years experience in the renewable energy industry, since becoming the first Chief Executive of what is now BP Solar. He later established his own photovoltaics company Intersolar Group, which from 1993 to 2002 was the sole UK manufacturer of photovoltaic cells.

A Cambridge engineering graduate, Philip has served on the Board of Directors of European and British renewable energy associations, and on bodies advising the European Commission and the British Government. Amongst other appointments, he is Executive Director of the Renewable Energy Association, which represents the UK renewable energy industry.
