Transition Event Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary
Transition Event Marks 10-year Anniversary
24 September 2024
Newcastle University recently hosted its annual Transition Event from September 11th to 13th, 2024, aimed at supporting new students with Autism Spectrum Conditions and mental health conditions. This event, co-created with students (Co-creation team photo to the right) and held just before the start of the academic year, provided a welcoming environment for both undergraduate and postgraduate students to ease their transition into university life.
The three-day event featured a variety of activities designed to help students acclimate to their new surroundings. Workshops and sessions focused on essential skills such as stress reduction, self-advocacy and effective study techniques. Additionally, students had the opportunity to meet with university staff and peers, fostering a sense of community and support.
Highlights of the event included opportunities for the students to share their experiences and concerns, receiving personalised advice and support; participation in activities such as a scavenger hunt, pottery painting and quizzes as well as space to socialise and start to develop friendships with peers ahead of induction and teaching starting. The event also included campus tours, helping students familiarise themselves with the university’s facilities and resources.
This year's event included a celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Transition Event, with a celebration ending the week which included welcoming back both alumni and current students who have previously attended the Transition Event. It was lovely to hear people's reflections on their experience of the Transition Event and their time at Newcastle University!
Overall, the Transition Event 2024 was a resounding success, providing invaluable support to students as they embark on their academic journeys. Newcastle University continues to demonstrate its commitment to student wellbeing, ensuring that all students have the resources and support they need to thrive.
