Staff Support

We're committed to supporting our colleagues' wellbeing as well as our students'.

We provide flexible and accessible support services to our colleagues via the Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care team.

We can provide a listening ear and talk you through a range of issues that you may be experiencing, which could include:

  • stress and workload worries
  • relationship difficulties
  • family worries
  • identity, gender and sexuality
  • loss or bereavement
  • faith, spirituality, or beliefs
  • values or ethics

You can speak to a member of our JustAsk team too - this is a service provided by volunteer colleagues, who are dedicated to supporting you. You'll have one or two meetings with a member of the team to get your concerns off your chest, and they'll be able to advise you on how to seek further support.

We work closely with the the teams responsible for colleague health and wellbeing, and we'll help you access the best support services for your needs.

As well as teams dedicated to giving you the support you need, we also have an employee assistance programme (EAP), where you can access online resources and further guidance.

Our staff support services include:

  • our Listening Ear service, which offers one-off or regular talking sessions. We offer a flexible appointment schedule for your first meeting, which you can do online or in-person
  • Walk & Talk sessions, where you can join a walk with colleagues and students for some mental wellbeing, fresh air, open conversation and exercise
  • support from our Chaplains, who can encourage and accompany you as you explore a faith or spirituality tradition
  • faith and belief resources through the University Library service and Virtual Learning Environment

To access any of these services, contact chaplaincy@ncl.ac.uk

Faith support services

If you're interested in joining a faith group, you'll be pleased to know that many of our student faith societies are open to colleagues too. To join your relevant faith society, you can contact the society directly.

We have two faith-related email forums that you can also join to keep up to date with activities and events you might be interested in:

Hate incidents

If you've experienced sexual violence or a hate crim, please let us know by using our Survivor Support Service - here, you can provide full details or anonymous reports.

We'll fully support you if you make a named report to us - our Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care team and Hate Crime and Sexual Violence prevention teams work together to ensure you get the support you need.
