Accommodation Guarantee
We guarantee accommodation to all first-year, undergraduate and postgraduate students where certain eligibility criteria is met.
Information regarding applying for accommodation and pricing is relevant for the 2024/25 academic year and will be subject to change for 2025/26 entrants. Updated details will follow this spring.
Accommodation guarantee
Coming to university is an exciting time but moving to an unfamiliar city can be a daunting experience. We aim to take some of the stress out of the process by offering our Accommodation Guarantee.
We can guarantee you accommodation so long as:
- you are about to start your first year of an undergraduate or postgraduate taught course
- you have applied as a single student (not as a couple or family)
- you have made us your 'firm' choice university and have applied for a full year's accommodation by 31 July 2025 (undergraduate)
- if you are a postgraduate taught student, you hold an unconditional firm offer by 30 June 2025
The guarantee is an offer of a room in University-owned or managed partnership accommodation. We strive to match you with your chosen accommodation, but this isn't always possible due to the popularity of some residences. We appreciate your understanding that our guarantee is of a room, not one you have chosen.
Exclusions
Not all applicants are covered by our guarantee. You are not guaranteed accommodation if:
- you are a part-year student - see information for part year students
- you do not intend to live in the accommodation for the full academic year
- you require couple or family accommodation
- you suspended your studies after the first term in a previous year
- you did not meet the deadlines set out in the guarantee
Couples and families
Couples and families aren't guaranteed accommodation, but we still recommend that you apply and we'll try to offer you accommodation.
You can apply by submitting an application in the Accommodation Portal, where you’ll pick one accommodation option. For couples, this is a two-bedroom flat, and families can choose either a two or three-bedroom flat that would meet the needs of your family size.
We'll ask for information about the other members of your household, as well as your arrival and departure dates. We aim to process applications as soon as possible after receiving them, so we recommend applying as soon as the application is open and you’re a firm offer holder - although we can’t process your application until you obtain your unconditional offer. Only one member of the household needs to apply.
Non-guaranteed
If you aren't covered by our accommodation guarantee, we'll begin to process your application from 30 August 2025 onwards, or as soon as possible after we have processed all of our guaranteed applicants.
We'll still aim to offer you accommodation, but if this is not possible, we'll tell you as soon as possible. We'll collate availability from accommodation providers in Newcastle and we'll share this with you too.
