Your Welcome Week programme runs from Tuesday 17 September to Saturday 21 September 2024.

To help you transition smoothly into university life, we've designed this bespoke schedule for your course. It contains a mix of informative sessions, networking opportunities, and fun activities.

Some activities are specific to your course, while others will introduce you to opportunities and events across the wider University.

You'll find a list of your activities below. Click on an activity title to show the activity description.

Please note that:

  • all activities may be subject to change. Check back regularly for the most up-to-date information.
  • your activities may be a mix of in-person and online sessions. If applicable, links to online sessions will be provided in the activity description. 
  • some activities may require sign-up in order to attend. If applicable, sign-up links will be provided in the activity description.
  • most sessions are compulsory, but some are optional - this will be specified in the activity description.

Tuesday 17 September

10:00 - DPD Welcome - FDC 1.17

Time: 10:00 to 12:00

Venue: Frederick Douglas Centre (FDC), room 1.17

Meet your Degree Programme Director (DPD) Dr Brian Varian who will welcome you to the programme. 

Your DPD will introduce you to a fun Teams challenge that will take place as part of your induction to allow you to meet some of the students on your programme.

Wednesday 18 September

10:00 - Meet Your Module Leaders - FDC G.41

Time: 10:00 to 11:00

Venue: Frederick Douglass Centre (FDC), room G.41

Thursday 19 September

9:30 - Introduction to LinkedIn Learning (optional) - online

Time: 9:30 to 10:00

Venue: Online 

Attendance: Optional

Sign-up required: No

Business School Director of Digital Education, Dr David Grundy, will introduce you to LinkedIn Learning and explain how you can use this to support your studies. This session will be recorded for those unable to attend live. Once you have completed your registration you will receive an email with details of how you can access LinkedIn Learning.

11:30 - Business School Undergraduate Welcome - FDC G.41

Time: 11:30 to 12:30

Venue: Frederick Douglass Centre (FDC), Room G.41

Join us for a welcome to the Business School and key information about the Library and Careers support.

14:00 - Undergraduate Sustainability Challenge (optional) - NUBS 1.01 PC

Time: 14:00 to 16:00

Venue: Newcastle University Business School (NUBS), room 1.01 PC

Attendance: Optional

Event for Undergraduate students in the Business School. Work collaboratively to tackle a sustainability challenge - a great opportunity to get to know your peers and become a global systemic thinker.

Friday 20 September

10:00 - Wellbeing Welcome - FDC G.41

Time: 10:00 to 11:00

Venue: Frederick Douglass Centre (FDC), room G.41

Attendance: Compulsory

Sign-up required: No

Hear about the support available to you. This session is led by your Senior Tutor, Dr Ian Corrick, and will include input from our Student Wellbeing Adviser and Peer Mentors.

You will also be able to access key wellbeing information on the Core Canvas Induction Course - you will have access once you have completed registration.

 

11:00 - Personal Tutor meetings - NUBS/FDC

Time: 11:00 to 12:00

Venue: Various TBC (Newcastle University Business School/Frederick Douglass Centre)

Attendance: Compulsory

Sign-up required: No

Come to a group meeting with your allocated Personal Tutor. They will be your own point of contact during your programme for advice and guidance on personal and academic matters. You will be notified of your Personal Tutor and room details by email.

Tuesday 17 September to Wednesday 18 September - Students’ Union Clubs and Societies Fair

Time: 10:00 to 16:00 (10:00 to 11:00 Quiet Hour)

Venue: University Sports Centre

Attendance: Optional 

Sign-up required: No

At the Clubs and Societies Fair, you will find members from the majority of the 65 clubs and 200 societies, ready and willing to answer any question you may have about joining, cost, socials, training and more! It’s the perfect opportunity to see what we have on offer and mingle with those already involved. You may even see some demonstrations. From Archery to Zumba there really is something for everyone with our fantastic student led clubs and societies.

Please note: 10:00 to 11:00 is Quiet Hour whereby we will be making adjustments to the environment to make it less sensory stimulating for those that may have a hidden disability.

Join us for an engaging and relaxed morning where you can engage in a range of bite-size activities, meet our Employability team here at Newcastle University Business School, and network with your peers whilst getting to know all that Newcastle has to offer. Food and refreshments included.

Wednesday 2 October - Business School Undergraduate Pizza Social - NUBS 8.10

Time: 12:00 to 14:00

Venue: Newcastle University Business School (NUBS), room 8.10 

Celebrate the start of the new academic year and take the opportunity to meet students from other programmes in the Business School.

Our annual employability conference aims to help you explore a range of business sectors and build your skills in a range of activities and sessions. You will have the opportunity to take part in the events listed below.
