Students celebrate second consecutive year of success at Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge 2024

Newcastle University Business School achieved success for the second year in a row in this year’s Bloomberg Global trading Challenge, with one student team from the School – Wall St Warriors – ranking 1st in the UK and 20th globally.

3 December 2024

This follows last year’s achievements where students ranked in the top 10%.

The annual challenge is available to university students and is the only competition to take place in the Bloomberg Terminal. Students can get immersed in the industry, using real world techniques and financial tools to develop an investment strategy and research high-potential stocks.

The challenge also helps students gain experience with their research and presentation skills and provides them the opportunity to network with like-minded students and build contacts.

Building on success

This year saw 2,453 teams competing from 396 universities and 46 countries. The competition was open to all Newcastle University students and out of the 10,240 participants worldwide, 105 participants – making up 28 teams – were from Newcastle University. Four teams from the University ranked in the global top 10%, making it an amazing achievement all round.

Ryan Tindale, Captain of Wall St Warriors said: “This is our first year competing in this challenge, so it feels amazing it to have placed so highly. There was great competition across the region, especially from the team at LSE, who were close at the beginning of the final week. Congratulations to everyone who took part in this competition, and I look forward to competing again next year.”

Dr Jose Lui, said: “Congratulations to everyone who took part, particularly Newcastle University Business School's student team, Wall St Warriors, for an outstanding performance. Ranking 20th globally out of 2,453 teams, 3rd in Europe, and 1st in the UK is an incredible achievement. It showcases their talent, strategy, and dedication.

“Participating in this prestigious competition has given our students a unique opportunity to sharpen their trading skills, gain real-world financial insights, and stand out on a global stage. We’re immensely proud of their hard work and success – keep aiming high, Wall St Warriors!”
