Staff Profile

 Chris's professional work is focused around two interrelated fields:  

• as a practitioner, he undertakes research and development in the voluntary and community sectors focused on North East England. This activity includes a broad range of social policy areas such as social and personal provision, public health, criminal justice, arts and culture. And a broad range of responses including participant-led approaches; local and social enterprises and economic development; inter-agency, inter-sectoral and whole systems responses; the use of procurement to deliver social value; Corporate Social Responsibility; articulating and evidencing outcomes and impact, using such learning to enhance practice and provision.

• as an academic, he has worked with colleagues in Higher Education throughout his career (Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland, Durham, Teesside, Birmingham Universities). In 2009 he joined NUBS as a research assistant, and was rapidly drawn into teaching. He has taught on core modules in the N200 programme across all Stages. Since 2011 he has been involved in various roles with the Third Sector Research Centre, Birmingham University and is an active member of the Community Development Journal’s editorial board. He has completed CASAP and is a Fellow of the HEA.
