English Language and Linguistics graduates
Anna Kennedy
Anna graduated in 2021 with a BA degree in English Language. During her studies, she became interested in language evolution and is currently pursuing an MSc in Bioarcheology and Palaeontology.
Joaquín Bueno-Amaro
Joaquín is one of our international alumni, currently employed as a Learning and Development Specialist at Ubisoft CRC. Joaquín graduated in 2022 with a PhD in Sociolinguistics.
Khadija Badri
Khadija completed an English Language BA in 2016. During her studies, she became interested in the social aspects of the language and the ways it linked to social justice and equality. Khadija now works as a Community Engagement Manager at the National Institute for Health and Care research.
Oliver Reeves
Oliver graduated in 2020 with a BA in Linguistics. During his studies, he developed an idea for his own startup platform, Compiled. Oliver also works as a Senior Web Developer at The Verve Group.
Polly Dacam
Having graduated with an English Language BA in 2022, Polly now works as a Press Officer at Business in the Community.
Sheradan Miller
Having completed a PhD in Linguistics, Sheradan currently works as a Research Fellow at AQA, one of the awarding bodies in England that offers examinations at GCSE, AS and A Level.
Creative Writing graduates
Chloe Daykin
Chloe graduated with an MA in Creative Writing in 2014. In her final year, her debut, Fish Boy, won the Northern Writers Award. Since then, she has been commissioned for three more books by Faber & Faber.
Oisín Power
Oisín completed his MA in Creative Writing in 2020, preceded by a BA in English Literature. Oisín now works as a software developer, writer and filmmaker. His short film, Mary Lost Her Battle, recently premiered on BBC4.
Rosie McCrum
Rosie graduated in 2020 with a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Creative Writing and currently works as an Editor at The Local Content Company in London.
Tamsin Rees
Tamsin is a freelance playwright and creative writing tutor who completed both their BA and MA at Newcastle University. Tamsin is currently pursuing a PhD in Playwriting, supported by a scholarship from the Northern Bridge Consortium.
Will Loxley
After completing his BA in English Literature and Creative Writing (2015), Will went on to further his studies. In 2021, he published his first book Writing in the Dark and is currently working on a novel about ghosts and radicalisation in wartime Bedfordshire.
English Literature graduates
Alyssa Mercante
Alyssa is an international graduate currently based in Brooklyn, New York. After completing her MA in Modern and Contemporary Literature in 2016, Alyssa now works as a Senior Editor at Kotaku, one of the most prominent gaming and media websites in the world.
Daniel Rawcliffe
Daniel studied English Literature and became interested in the law after he took a job at a legal firm. He is now a solicitor specialising in employment law.
Esther Fearn
Ester studied for her BA in English Literature and her MA at Newcastle. After graduating in 2015, Ester started working and volunteering at Alphabetti Theatre and is currently employed as a Venue Producer.
Joanne McGarey
Following the conclusion of her English Literature degree (BA), Joanne decided to transition into the legal field. She studied a Graduate Diploma in Law and currently works as a Senior Crown Prosecutor in the Rape and Serious Sexual Offences unit.
Katherine Farrimond
After completing her BA in English Literature, Katherine proceeded to study MA in Modern and Contemporary Literature, and a PhD focused on popular cinema. Katherine now works as a Senior Lecturer in Media and Cultural Studies in Brighton.
Kayleigh Fraser
Kayleigh was always keenly interested in news and politics. She wrote for The Courier, the university's student newspaper, as an undergraduate and is now a journalist for The Northern Echo.
Kirsten Wise
Kirsten graduated in 2019 with a BA in English Literature. She proceeded to complete a PGCE course and currently works as a Teacher of English and Literacy Coordinator for ages 11-16.
Oliver Seymour
Oliver graduated with a BA in English Literature in 2017 and currently works as a Podcast Producer for Fresh Air, the UK’s leading branded podcast producer.
Roz Tuplin
Roz completed both her BA and MLitt degrees at Newcastle University and currently works as a writer at one of the UK’s largest video game companies.
Literature and History graduates
Alexandra Charlton
Alex graduated with a BA in English Literature and History in 2018 and went on to pursue a career in Education. Alex currently works as a Teacher of English at a Secondary School.
Hannah Marmaro
Hannah is an international graduate, currently pursuing a law degree at Penn State Law. After completing a BA in Literature and History at Newcastle (2018), she studied an MA at Oxford and ultimately decided to transition into the legal field with a view of becoming a Trusts and Estates Attorney.
Pengpeng (Penny) Wang
Penny is an international graduate based in Beijing, China. Penny completed her BA at Newcastle in 2017 and currently works as an English Teacher and Head of Research & Development at ReachTop International.
