Brief Outline of Research Project:

This project traces Anna Laetitia Barbauld’s educational philosophy in the writings of a diverse, transatlantic network of Dissenting thinkers, shedding intersectional insights on the interaction of the cosmopolitan ideal in colonial contexts. Recovering the voices of female educationalists, I establish pedagogy as the fulcrum of a transatlantic discourse of human rights, embedded in Dissent and actualised by women.
