Brief Outline of Research Project:

Open Clasp make theatre that integrates creative and socially engaged practice in unique and powerful ways. Articulating and evaluating the full scope of the company’s activity is challenging because it crosses the boundaries of a range of practices. This project will use Open Clasp’s archive to document, analyse and reflect on the social and aesthetic distinctiveness and impact of its work in theatre for social change since 1998. By situating the company in the context of feminist theatre, constructing a history of its distinctive contribution, and evaluating its impact, it will make a significant intervention in debates on socially-engaged theatre.
