Poetry Criticism
Our research cluster in Poetry Criticism ranges from the early modern to the contemporary and has strengths in critical, archival, and scholarly editing work.
The poetry criticism cluster includes critics and scholarly editors who work on poetry from the Renaissance to the present. Our research ranges from Ben Jonson, Percy Bysshe Shelley, William Wordsworth, and Alexander Pope to Basil Bunting, Tom Raworth, Charles Olson, Derek Walcott, Kamau Brathwaite, and Una Marson.
Newcastle University houses the Contemporary Poetry Collections, which is a rich resource for staff and postgraduate research. Holdings include the Bloodaxe Books Poetry Archive and the papers of Sean O’Brien, Barry MacSweeney, Selima Hill, and Moniza Alvi.
We work closely with the Newcastle Centre for the Literary Arts, which brings leading poets to Newcastle to speak about contemporary poetry and the practice of poetry, as well as with Animating Text Newcastle University.
