Choosing Newcastle
The ranking of the University and the Business School had a big impact on my decision to come here. I like that in Newcastle you have the ability to mix with people of different cultures and it’s a really friendly city.
Studying at Newcastle
I previously studied management and HR management, but the ICE course enabled me to further specialise and I am now applying for a PhD here. The lectures are really good and they have had a really positive influence on my decision to pursue a PhD in the entrepreneurship field. The funding I received is also a bonus!
The workload is huge! However it’s very practical in nature, so my course is still an academic course, but there is a great practical element that I didn’t get at undergraduate level.
Postgraduate community
I have found a really international and very helpful postgraduate community at Newcastle. In the Business School I’ve had the opportunity to attend additional seminars which has been great. I have also been involved in the Parent Society at the Student’s Union, which is a great way to meet other working mothers like myself and to share experiences.
Funding my studies
I was offered a £5,000 NUIPS and a £2,000 Business School Excellence Scholarship which I took. Both were advertised very clearly on the website which was great. I have covered the rest of my fees with a loan from my relatives and from my spouse.
Career aspirations
I would like to do a PhD following my Master’s. My current course is really helping me to prepare for this transition. I am also taking advantage of the additional support provided by the academic writing team who are based in the INTO centre. The standard of the in-sessional English provision has been fantastic.
Living in Newcastle
Newcastle has good shopping experiences and the city has a nice, friendly buzz.
Remembering Newcastle
Newcastle has really opened my eyes to the world of research and now this is really something that I would like to pursue.
