Getting help in the Library

7 October 2024

If you need help in the library, you might be wondering where to go or who is the best person to ask for help. All our staff are happy to help answer any of your questions so don’t be afraid to ask. However, we do have some specialist teams who can help you with specific library queries.

Your Academic Skills Team

The Academic Skills Team are based in the Philip Robinson Library and are here to support you whether you are new to Newcastle University or are a returning student, whether you’re entering at stage one or doing your PhD. They have a wide range of resources and services to help you develop your academic skills throughout your time at Newcastle. Throughout the year they offer the following:

  • In-person or online one-to-one sessions
  • Express slots for quick, focussed questions or 50 minute appointments for more in-depth discussions
  • Focused clinics to help you with for example, exams and revision and completing a dissertation.
  • Informal drop-in’s in the Academic Skills Hub in the Philip Robinson Library, or across campus in a variety of locations

Find out when and where you can catch the team on their booking page.

Your Liaison Team

The librarians from the Liaison Team can help you develop your skills in finding, evaluating, managing, and referencing information. They are experts in helping you develop skills to use the Library and information sources effectively, and can advise on improving your information search plan. You can contact them via Library Help or book a one-to-one appointment to meet them in person or online.

24/7 Library Help

Library Help is available whenever you need it. In-person help is available at our Library Help desks during desk services opening times and for 24/7 help and advice on all Library related issues, you can contact us online via chat, email or search our knowledgebase
