Being a Peer Mentor
After starting University during covid, I had many questions about my degree course, but struggled to be able to ask fellow classmates. I wanted to be a Peer Mentor to allow students to have someone they could ask questions about student life and how to adjust to university. As a Peer Mentor, I am there to do this for my mentees and I am able to share my student experience. They know that they are not alone in what they are experiencing. I encouraged my mentees to take part in an induction period competition so that they could work together and build rapport amongst themselves.
Benefits of being a Peer Mentor
As a Peer Mentor, I have developed leadership and time management skills, as well as improved my patience! To anyone thinking about volunteering as a Peer Mentor, I would say that it is a very good opportunity and you should take advantage of it! It is also a nice way to help students in the year below and make new friends.
