- How do I access electronic journals?
The electronic journals subscribed to by the Library are listed on Library Search. You can also browse our e-journals using BrowZine and discover the most relevant e-journals on your Subject Guide.
To find a journal using Library Search, type the title of the journal into the search box and once you have identified your title, click 'View Online'. You may be asked to log in with your University username and password.
BrowZine allows you to browse the articles within a particular e-journal title. To access BrowZine whilst on campus, navigate to the BrowZine website. BrowZine will recognise you're on campus and automatically pass you through to the e-journal subject list.
From off campus, you will need to select Newcastle University from the library list on the BrowZine website. You will then be asked to login using your Newcastle University Campus ID and password.
Once you have accessed BrowZine, you can either browse by subject category or you can search by title, subject or ISSN.
- Does the Library have books on medicine in art and literature?
Yes, the Walton Library has a collection of books called the Medicine in Literature collection, or MIL for short. This collection also includes graphic novels.
The items in this collection are diverse, covering both fiction and non-fiction, but they all share one broad theme: the depiction of medicine in art and literature.
The MIL collection can be found in the Walton Library's Short Loans area, but are available on a long loan basis.
- Does the Walton Library hold medical records?
No, generally, health and care records are held by the organisation that provides the health service, for example a GP practice or optician.
Records for unregistered or deceased individuals are held by the national authority, for example NHS England.
Health and care records are confidential, so you can only access someone else's records with the appropriate authorisation.
- Does the library have online reading lists for my course?
The Library provides access to online reading lists for many of the University's current modules.
You can connect directly to a reading list associated with a module through Canvas and the Medical Learning Environment.
The Reading Lists service can help you easily find and access the books, e-books, journals, articles and other resources which academic staff have recommended for your course. For more information see the Library's support page for Databases, Journals and Reading Lists.
Please visit Library Search to check the availability and location of books, and to access electronic resources (including e-books, journals and articles.)
