Aims
To enable students to understand how macro-economic, political, social and technological forces influence the development and regulation of the international business environment.
By examining the macro-economic, political, social and technological forces that influence the global business environment, this module provides a comprehensive survey of the complex and dynamic international environment in which businesses operate. Areas covered include:
- Drivers of internationalisation of businesses
- Locating globalisation in a historical context
- The development and regulation of global trade, investment and financial markets
- The role of the state within the global environment
- Trends in the evolving relationship between international businesses and society
Outline Of Syllabus
The syllabus will cover the following themes:
- Analysing the economic, political, social and technological dimensions of the Global Business Environment
- Drivers of the internationalisation of businesses and the growth of MNCs
- The Role of the State in International Business
- The Role of Multilateral Organizations in International Trade and Investment

Teaching Rationale And Relationship
The lectures supplement student reading to provide the theoretical and practical knowledge required to understand and analyse the nature of and evolving issues in the international business environment. The lectures also equip students with a framework for student-centred learning through the elaboration of relevant theoretical perspectives drawn from a range of disciplines (including economic, political and social). Small group teaching enable students to develop their understanding through mutual learning and discussion.

Class discussions and group work are designed to help students develop the understanding and analytical skills needed to attend the assessment.
