Aims

The module will underpin livestock feeding studies at a more advanced level in the subsequent Stage of degree programmes. It aims to inform students about the nutrient requirements of farm and companion animals and the range of raw materials which can be used as feeds in animal diets. It will provide the opportunity for students to undertake laboratory analysis of feed raw materials

Teaching Rationale And Relationship

The theory and detailed information are delivered in the lectures. Students gain an appreciation of the variation in feeds and feeding systems from the practical sessions. Experience of feed analyses is gained from the laboratory practical sessions.

Assessment Methods

The format of resits will be determined by the Board of Examiners

Exams
Description Length Semester When Set Percentage Comment
Written Examination901A100end of semester examination or alternative assessment if required
Formative Assessments

Formative Assessment is an assessment which develops your skills in being assessed, allows for you to receive feedback, and prepares you for being assessed. However, it does not count to your final mark.

Description Semester When Set Comment
Practical/lab report1MFormative data calculations for some lab and animal based data provided to students in the lab session for comparison
Assessment Rationale And Relationship

The theory and detailed information are delivered in a combination of synchronus, non-synchronus and present-in-person (PiP) modes. Students gain an appreciation of the variation in feeds and feeding systems from the visit and PiP or pre recorded lab activities. Experience of feed analyses is gained from the laboratory practical PiP sessions.
