Aims
To provide information and develop the students understanding of the process of carcinogenesis, on
the biology of cancer cells, on oncogenes and tumour suppressor genes and on the pharmacology of
the main anticancer drugs and to explore new pharmacological strategies in the treatment of cancer.

Teaching Rationale And Relationship
The lectures provide the majority of the knowledge, together with information on novel approaches to cancer treatment.
The seminar session consists of the presentation of a research paper by each student, giving them the opportunity to investigate an aspect of the course material in greater depth.

Assessment Rationale And Relationship
The oral presentation will assess the students' ability to research a topic in greater depth showing their critical analysis skills as well as their general presentation skills.
FMS Schools offering Semester One modules available as ‘Study Abroad’ will, where required, provide an alternative assessment time for examinations that take place after the Christmas vacation. Coursework with submissions dates after the Christmas vacation will either be submitted at an earlier date or at the same time remotely.
