Mature Students

We welcome applications from mature students, aged 21 or over at the time of entry.

Applying as a mature student

Mature students apply through UCAS. We will carefully consider your application on its individual merits, taking into account your:

  • qualifications
  • life experience
  • motivation
  • interests
  • employment

We also consider your ability to undertake academic study and to succeed and benefit from your chosen course.

Increasing numbers of people attend university to develop their careers, learn new skills or to enjoy a stimulating course of study. We want to encourage more.

Our mature students come from diverse professions. They also include those who have started a degree after raising a family. They may have left school with no formal qualifications or see a degree as a rewarding challenge during retirement.

Visit us before applying

Before applying to Newcastle University you may want to come and visit us. There is no better way to get a feel for Newcastle University than to come and visit our campus in the heart of the city. Find out more about our three Open Days each year and our Campus Tours.
