Our Facilities

The Business School is designed with our users in mind. From our social café, to quiet study spaces and event spaces, the School is full of dedicated facilities to support our students, staff and visitors.

The School has two buildings: the main Business School building and the Frederick Douglass Centre (FDC).

Both are located on the Newcastle Helix site – a thriving hub built for science, technology, business and local communities. The Business School faces onto the world-renowned football stadium, St James' Park.

Each building offers a host of facilities, including:

  • hub of lecture theatres
  • teaching spaces
  • flexible conference facilities

We have a range of purpose built student spaces to engage, support and guide our learners through their time with us, including:

  • large lecture theatres
  • flexible seminar rooms
  • open study spaces
  • PC clusters
  • quiet spaces
  • bookable group study rooms

Career Hub

For our students, securing a future career is as important as academic achievements.

We have career advisers and a placement and study abroad team to help our learners get career ready.

The Career Hub is located on the ground floor of the Business School. The Hub offers drop ins during term time and we often run takeovers with employers here too. We welcome enquiries from businesses interested in engaging with or working with our students.

Conference and event spaces

Our impressive conference and event spaces are flexible to accommodate delegates.

They're used for internal and external events, including:

  • open days
  • student inductions
  • large conferences

Our spaces range from a large 750-seat auditorium to a large flexible space overlooking St James' Park, plus smaller breakout areas.

Our recently refurbished St. James’ View room has stunning views of the stadium and city. It has a flexible room set up, allowing us to host a range of different events. We've recently held industry insight sessions with guest panels, a business open day and a plaque unveiling event.

If you're looking for a space for your next event or conference, please contact our Reception team.

On-site café

We have a café in the main Business School building, as well as several cafés in the buildings on the Newcastle Helix site. Each of our campus cafés serve hot and cold drinks and a variety of sandwiches, pastries and snacks.

Students frequently use the campus café for some down time in between teaching. Pay with a Discount Fob to save 10% on every purchase in campus cafes.

Those coming to campus for an event can also use these spaces to grab some refreshments, chat to other attendees, or catch up on emails.

Security and access

Our buildings are easily accessible, with step-free access and lifts. Staff and students have access to spaces around our building via a Smartcard, for added security.

All external visitors should report to the main reception on the ground floor of the Business School or the FDC. This ensures we know who is in the building for the safety of all our guests.

We have secure storage for staff and students, including bicycle storage, shower and locker spaces.

Accessibility

The Business School values individual differences and the diversity this brings. Our buildings are accessible and user friendly. We have a range of adjustments that can support you when moving around our buildings, such as lifts and accessible toilets.

We also have genderless toilets in the FDC.
